The Onside Chaplain
The Onside Chaplain is here for young people who want to talk about faith, questions, life or something they are working through.
What to know
- ·Talking to the chaplain is optional.
- ·You do not have to be a Christian.
- ·You can ask questions, disagree or simply talk.
- ·The chaplain is part of the wider Onside support network.
- ·You can also talk to an Onside leader, a parent or carer, a teacher or another adult you trust.
What can I talk about?
Anything that is on your mind. For example:
- ·Questions about Christianity
- ·Doubt
- ·Prayer
- ·Things happening in life
- ·Friendships
- ·Difficult decisions
- ·Something you are worried about
The chaplain is not a counsellor, therapist or mental-health professional. If you need that kind of support, the chaplain or an Onside leader can help you find the right help.
Will everything stay private?
The chaplain will normally listen respectfully and keep conversations appropriately private. But if you say something that suggests you or somebody else may be unsafe or at risk of serious harm, they may need to tell the right safeguarding adult so that somebody can help.
If somebody is in immediate danger, call 999.
How to talk to the chaplain
You can speak to the Onside Chaplain at an Onside session, or ask an Onside leader to help you find them. You can also talk to an Onside leader, a parent or carer, a teacher or another adult you trust.
